Free Family Event: Festival of Felines, Saturday August 29, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Celebrating Cat Care Society’s Shelter Cats and 2015 Painted Cats

Lakewood, CO – August 21, 2015 – The Cat Care Society (CCS) Festival of Felines is returning Saturday, August 29, 2015, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the CCS shelter, 5787 W. Sixth Avenue. The announcement is made by CCS President Gail Tinianow who says these free, family-oriented activities will be available for Festival attendees:

  • Pet and play with the CCS shelter cats and kittens
  • See all the 2015 Painted Cats
  • Tour The CCS Cat Clinic
  • Enjoy free refreshments: Ice Cream Bars, Cake, Punch and Pop Corn
  • Face Painting
  • Kids Crafts and Give-Aways (including Spin The Wheel)
  • New this year: 'Photo Man Richard' will take 5x7 photos with your favorite Painted Cat or a 'cooperative' Real CCS Cat (or you by yourself or with your human friend). Photos will be printed on-site for guests to take home with them.
Tails of the Painted Cats (TOPC) is in its fifth consecutive year of raising funds for the shelter’s homeless cats and community outreach programs. Auction of the painted cats occurs at the Gala Dinner & Auction on October 10, 2015, at Pinehurst Country Club. Joining us this year as Master of Ceremonies is 9News Reporter Steve Staeger. Former Mayor of Cherry Hills Village, Doug Tisdale, returns as the TOPC auctioneer. Renowned Colorado plein-air and studio landscape artist, Cheryl St. John, served as jurist for this year’s Tails of the Painted Cats.

“We have a long list of wonderful artists and sponsors who have all committed to sharing their time, talent and resources with us this year and we’re thrilled to be enjoying our fifth Tails of the Painted Cats season in Colorado,” Gail Tinianow, CCS board president, said. “This event is so very special and unique and truly is the Cat Care Society’s signature fundraising event.”

Artists and sponsors were finalized for the 2015 event in March, with the finished works debuting for public viewing at the Lakewood Arts Council Gallery in June, followed by Evergreen’s Main Street Gallery in August. After Festival of Felines, the painted cats move to the Art of Life Gallery in the Arts District on Santa Fe, September 4 - 29.

Tails of the Painted Cats 2015 features 23 one-of-a-kind fiberglass cats, expertly painted by accomplished local artists. As in past years, all but one cat will be available for auction – both online and at the gala – with a special, featured cat that can be purchased by raffle only. This year’s raffle cat, Dale Cat-Huly, was created by artist Carla Pawlewicz.

The Cat Care Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless, injured and abused cats in the Denver metropolitan area. In an effort to prevent animal neglect and abuse, CCS offers educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of all animals; provides shelter for cats in a healthy, cage-free environment; and works to find compatible families for every feline that comes into the facility. The shelter provides a loving, temporary refuge for more than 50 cats at any given time, affordable veterinary services to the general public and a free food and litter bank for cat owners experiencing temporary financial challenges.
