Celebrating Volunteers at Cat Care Society: It's National Volunteer Week in America, April 12-18, 2015

Cat Care Society thanks and celebrates its team of 118 volunteers with 799 years of collective service to the organization. We appreciate all they do for the cats.

Quoting Jane Dorsey, Cat Care Society's Volunteer Coordinator, from her annual message:

"The 12th of April marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week, designated as such by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. We at Cat Care Society know well that volunteers make the difference between a nonprofit’s success and failure to exist. Without a strong volunteer program CCS would not be able to adequately shelter cats in need, and give them the love, attention and care they require while waiting for their forever homes. The program is always moving ahead with changes and new ideas.

Last year, we began a new program which focuses on hand-on socialization for the cats awaiting adoption. We have two shifts a day where a volunteer comes in and seeks out the neediest of our resident population and gives those cats the special attention they need. This hopefully helps them to endure life in the shelter with less stress, and more contented moments. We have seen good results for the cats while also giving the participating volunteers an opportunity to become more engaged with the furry friends they support. This is one of many tasks our team of volunteers does.

This past year also saw the formation of a communications team to keep up with social media and news feeds. Planning and implementation of fundraising events has also seen an increase in volunteer participation. Committee members are an absolute necessity to create the foundation for any successful event. Our volunteer-driven food bank for cat owners in need has been going strong for 5 years. This very successful outreach program would not exist if not for caring volunteers and donors. Our educational seminars are also a volunteer-driven project. Not only do the seminars acquaint new people with the shelter, but also provide our pet loving supporters with new ideas and ways to enjoy their cats.

Our amazing Board of Directors has selflessly supported, directed and nurtured our organization through thick and thin. They are Volunteers Extraordinaire!"
