FOSTER CARE

Volunteering to foster cats and kittens is an extremely rewarding experience, for both families and individuals.  Volunteers who foster provide care and a loving temporary home to animals in need, until they are ready for adoption.

Why Do Cats Need Foster Homes?

Cats need foster homes for a variety of reasons.  The most common ones are:

  • Kittens too young for adoption
  • Nursing cats with kittens
  • Cats and kittens who need socialization
  • Adoptable cats and kittens who aren’t thriving in the shelter
  • Terminally ill cats who need a loving home for hospice care

After your application has been reviewed and approved, you will need to attend the next scheduled volunteer orientation, and fostering seminar at the Shelter.  These are held on Saturdays twice a year, and are usually 2 hours long.

Home Visit

Once you are set as a volunteer and foster home you will be contacted by our Shelter Manager to schedule a visit to your home.  Cat Care Society and state law require a home visit for all foster families.

Welcoming a Foster into Your Home

When a foster cat or kitten is available that would fit in your home, the Shelter Manager will contact you and you can begin fostering.  You will receive complete support from our Shelter Manager and Veterinary Care team.
