Lifetime Care

The Questions

How do you provide for your cat in the event of an unexpected long-term illness? What happens if you are required to move to an environment that will not accept cats? Who loves, feeds, and shelters your cat if your pre-decease him?

Our Response

Cat Care Society will provide loving care for your cat, see that he is adopted into a good home, and after adoption, make follow up calls to ensure that your cat and his adopter are compatible. If the adopter is unable to care for your cat for any reason, he will be returned to Cat Care Society.

Potential adopters are interviewed to determine if they've had cats before; their experiences with caring for felines; and the ages and temperaments of other pets or children who reside in the household. Cat Care Society does not adopt cats into families with children unless each child is met and observed interacting with cats (rough treatment is cause for adoption refusal). Cats will only be placed where they will be indoors or allowed outdoors only in a protected area. Each adopter signs a contract with Cat Care Society.

Your Assurance

If there is no one to care for your cat should you become unable to do so, Cat Care Society can provide you with peace of mind knowing that your feline friend will be loved and cared for. Your cat will be welcomed at the shelter until just the right home is found. Call the shelter to receive a Lifetime Care brochure and contract.

To provide for your cat, two options are available:

  1. Lifetime Care Contract
Our Lifetime Care Contract will ensure a place for your cat(s) at our shelter during your lifetime or upon your death. A $100 deposit per cat is required upon signing the contract, with $2,400 per cat due upon surrender of your cat(s).
  2. Provision in your Will (in addition to completing a Lifetime Care Contract)
To provide for your cat(s) through your Will, please consult with your attorney. In the state of Colorado, it is recommended that you use both of the following in your estate planning:

    • A Specific Devise to be included in your Will with a bequest which will contribute to the continuation of Cat Care Society
    • A Memorandum of Disposition of Tangible Persona Property to be attached to your will which will ensure that your cat(s) will be cared for by Cat Care Society upon your demise.

To obtain a Lifetime Care Contract and/or suggested wording for a Specific Devise and Memorandum of Disposition, please contact the shelter manager.
