We have an #adoptionupdate from Tariana who adopted Grapefruit (now Billie) in August 2024 on our Clear the Shelter Day! Tariana and her partner came to CCS with an open mind and heart, though Billie had caught their eye on our website before they came in.
“She seems to absolutely love it here to the point of her calling the shots! She loves above the tail scratches and purrs on immediate contact. Sometimes she’ll start purring as soon as the door opens. We took her to the vet to get the rest of her shots. They brought her back holding and snuggling her then told us she was “perfect.” Clean bill of health and all the love from the vet techs!
“She has just been an absolute treat. We initially got her labeled as a “fearful cat” with special instructions on how to acclimate her to her new home. She had been with the cats that have kidney disease simply for the quiet room. It took her about three days of consistent hiding in her hidey home in her bathroom before creeping out and exploring ever so slightly. About 2 weeks in she was (timidly) crawling onto our laps and falling asleep on top of us/directly next to us. By a month, she was waiting at the door for when we got home from work and giving us sass for not immediately petting her. She’s become quite the diva, and we fully support a lifestyle that’s fit for one! It’s what she deserves.
“She is heavily food motivated and will eat absolutely anything that she sees her humans eating, we of course are mindful of what she cannot eat, but the things that are cat friendly we let her indulge in. She’s only 7.5 pounds despite her large appetite. If she’s not eating, then she is most definitely sleeping. Favorite spots include her hammock on her cat tree, a mini fluffy bed next to the couch so she can be close to us while she snoozes (her preference and our happiness).
“We have gotten Billie almost all the toys we were told cats love. She has found the most pleasure with dryer balls, a mini fuzzy green rat, and blueberries. She’s a pretty cheap date to be fair. She is also the chattiest little kitty I have ever met. Always talking to us and asking for pets. I told my partner on the way home from the shelter after she didn’t make a peep for the whole car ride that we must have had a non vocal kitty. She certainly showed us pretty quick that this was not the case for her. She loves scratching the sides of her cat home in our bedroom. She’s the most well behaved kitty—no messes, no scratches, no jumping on counters, and no chewing on things. Could not have asked for a better or cuter kitty girl. We are over the moon with Billie and feel extremely lucky to have such a love bug.”
