We have an #adoptionupdate from Nadja who adopted Cuddles this past August! Her house/street names are “Kid Cudi” and “The Cuddlefish” (due to her love of seafood flavored tiki cat shreds). Nadja came to the shelter looking for a cat that just vibed well but in her heart, she wanted to adopt a senior kitty.
“Cuddles has adjusted amazingly!! She was definitely irritated, but nonetheless patient while her new parent figured out her treatment routine along with Churus. Otherwise, like most senior cats, she sleeps the day away. She is also slowly getting used to her new sister, a 6yr old cocker spaniel who also sleeps all day, though being deaf and without an eye might have just made her cautious.
“She has found her favorite comfy and cozy spots within the house, and navigates all of her surroundings in her own easy way (as we patiently await some pet stairs). When she’s up and has the energy, she loves her wand toy. She loves head pets, chin and neck scratches, and appreciates and accepts gentle interactions; and like most grumpy old ladies, doesn’t like to be woken up and moved from her naps (though she does wake up with enthusiasm when her parent comes home from work). But really what Cuddles enjoys doing more than anything is spending close time with her human. Whether that’s cuddling directly on their chest, cuddling with them in the early, waking mornings, or just being in a cozy spot near them, Cuddles lives out her retirement happy and spoiled with affection by her new parent.
“I was initially interested in Cuddles and it felt like the time never aligned to meet her, so I chalked it up to fate. After seeing a Facebook reel randomly one day from CCS’s page about Cuddles, I knew it might have been fate as I don’t follow the page at all. I went into the shelter the next day to just hang out with some cats, decided to ask if Cuddles was in that day, and it felt like everything aligned that day, as she was there. I was nervous about taking in a senior cat with kidney disease, arthritis, and possible loss of hearing; but it doesn’t stop her. That’s what makes it worth it, is seeing her thrive in a new home, having cute funny bursts of energy unexpectant of a 17yo cat with creaky joints, hearing her ask for attention, the random nights she wakes up screaming where did everybody go if she’s left sleeping in the living room, and seeing that even though she’s a senior cat, a grumpy old lady, she’s still just a girl. 🖤”
While at the shelter, Cuddles was part of our Lonely Hearts Club—a group of cats our staff believes need extra help finding their forever homes. These cats may be older, less eye-catching, have specific medical needs, or have simply been overlooked. Despite their challenges, we know they have so much love to give, and Cuddles is the perfect example of that! Thank you, Nadja, for recognizing how special Cuddles is!
