“We were looking for an adult cat, and we were open to older adults and/or cats with certain special needs. We chose Calista and Luna because they seemed to warm up to us, despite shelter staff’s observations that they weren’t particularly social otherwise. We also were concerned that their age made them less adoptable, so since we liked them it seemed like a win-win for them and us! Honey’s charming and quirky personality, as well as her age (maybe a senior?), prompted us to add to our adoption list after we chose Calista and Luna.
“Since Calista and Luna arrived a couple days after Honey, Calista has made it known that she would prefer Honey not be there. She stares her down, stalks her at times, and chases her. There’s some growling and hissing from both at these times and we promptly intervene when this happens. To keep everyone safe and as emotionally secure as we can, we have designated our spare bedroom for Calista to use with the door closed when we are sleeping or out of the house. Her room includes food, water, and a litter box. Honey chooses to spend most of her time in our upstairs living area, where she has access to food, water, litter box, and her cat tree. We have also purchased a plug in pheromone to help everyone chill out a little bit. We are hoping that with time and patience everyone will at least tolerate each other.
“Calista and Luna enjoy going to their home office with Nick. All 3 are very chatty and sociable with us. Honey enjoys spending time at the top of her cat tree, on our shoulders, participating in home workouts, and plays a lot with mouse toys. All 3 cats play with a wand toy when we are supervising them. Luna and Honey love the Hill’s canned food that was sent home with them. They eat it twice per day and always finish it. Calista is a bit pickier. She likes some of the Friskies canned food that was sent home with her, and does not like Hill’s canned food at all. We are still determining Calista’s favorite flavors and styles of Friskies (and trying to keep Luna out of it!). All 3 cats like the Hill’s dry food and eat a lot of it every day. We got a couple water fountains for them, after we noticed Honey tipping over bowls of water. Since that purchase, they all drink a good amount of water throughout the day. They are using the litter box as expected given their incredible food and water intake. We have no concerns about eating, drinking, or using the litter box.”
