We have an #adoptionupdate from Stan and Christine who adopted Jade in May 2016—she was just shy of 7 at the time. We actually featured an initial update from them in the summer 2016 issue of the Cat Care Society’s printed newsletter. It told the story of how Jade had been a companion of a gravely ill Vietnam veteran for the first six years of her life and how his friends transferred her from a large local shelter to CCS. Then, Stan and Christine adopted her after she had been with CCS for almost a year. They shared the original article with us along with their most recent update.
“Jade was a sweet, stoic cat who was deeply loved and enjoyed life with her two devoted human servants. She never weighed more than 6 pounds, but she was a fighter. Although she faced various health problems from the start, she gradually improved with the care of the veterinarians at CCS and Lakewood Veterinary Hospital. Despite her medical challenges, she remained affectionate and good-natured. And yes, as the article noted ten years ago, she was a daddy’s girl throughout her life.
“Jade crossed the Rainbow Bridge on May 21, 2026. She almost made it to her 17th birthday. Thank you, CCS, for saving her in 2016 so she could be part of our family. She made our early retirement years so meaningful. Also, thanks to the team of vets at CCS and Lakewood Veterinary who diligently cared for her and advised us. And finally, thanks to the kind, loyal CCS volunteer, Margaret Phillips, who remembers Jade arriving at your shelter in 2016. She shared her memories with Stan when he came by with some donations.”
Stan and Christine, thank you for all the love and care you gave Jade. We know she will be deeply missed.
